Business of Crafts Workshop Comes to Seattle

(PRWEB) September 1, 2006 -- Taught by an artist and a gallery owner, this comprehensive two-day workshop is designed for artists and craftspeople new to selling their work or who have been selling on a small scale and are ready to take their business to the next level.

Are you an artist or craftsperson new to selling your work? Or perhaps you've been selling on a small scale and are ready to take your business to the next level. In either case, a weekend workshop is coming to Seattle, tailored to fit the specific needs of this unique market niche. Taught by Pam Corwin, artist and owner of Paper Scissors Rock, and Manya Schilperoort, jewelry designer and owner of Kindred Circle Art Gallery, glean the fruits of their experiences at Pratt Fine Arts Institute in Seattle on March 16 and 17, 2007.

The Business of Crafts weekend seminar includes classes on selling art and crafts in retail settings as well as through wholesale outlets. Pricing and marketing tips will be addressed, as well as some great ideas on how to make a booth stand out in a crowded crafts show. Successful artists who earn their living through selling their art will share their stories. There will even be a panel of art gallery owners who will share their tips on how to make a great impression on them.

One of the most valuable parts of the weekend is the opportunity for artists to get feedback on their artwork from Corwin, Schilperoort and other professionals. They'll offer tips on how to price work, marketing ideas best suited to your work, and where the best targets markets lie. All this from experts who will offer feedback and encouragement.

Corwin and Schilperoort met many years ago at a show -- Corwin selling her clocks and Schilperoort selling her jewelry. Both businesses grew over the years and the two stayed in touch sporadically. Schilperoort opened her highly successful and respected gallery of contemporary fine art and craft in 2000. Corwin's work has become recognized in the crafts world and her work is now seen in over 300 stores across the U.S. By coincidence, both started teaching about the business of crafts independently. Now, years later, both are successful and business savvy, joining forces to create a workshop to help other artists travel the road they traveled -- but without as many bumps. As they both say, "It's everything we wish we'd known when just starting out so many years ago."
